An intense appreciation of the natural world and a
desire to share her vision of this world is the driving force behind
the paintings of Suzanne Owens. Working in both pastel and oil,
Suzanne travels extensively in the West and her native Texas in search
of subjects to which she feels a connection. She has studied with some
of the premier plein air painters in the country, including Skip
Whitcomb, Matt Smith, Scott Christensen and Kevin Macpherson. From
these instructors she has learned the value of painting on location
and the importance of seeing first-hand the colors, atmospheric
conditions, and of getting a sense of that place.
"I always find something in nature that attracts my
attention, be it the abstract patterns of the land forms
coming together, the design of the clouds in the sky, or
colors - either soft and muted or bright and bold. Plein air
painting offers an endless supply of material for my work."
Suzanne is a signature member of the Pastel Society of
America and the Pastel Society of the West Coast. She is
also a member of Oil Painters of America, the American
Impressionist Society, Alla Prima International, Degas
Pastel Society, Pastel Society of the Southwest, and
Southeastern Pastel Society.
