Suzanne Hemphill paints for the joy of
taking a blank canvas and creating something beautiful. Her
painting style leans very slightly toward the impressionistic as she
attempts to project the feeling the subject imparts to her.
She paints primarily in oils, and her subject matter is greatly
varied. She constantly strives to experiment with techniques,
color and artistic interpretations. She has lived in various
and varied areas of Texas and has traveled and painted in many areas
of the United States and Europe.
Suzanne began painting in Houston, Texas, under the tutelage of
the late Dick Turner. Since that time, she has studied with
nationally known artists such as Ann Templeton, William Reese, Bob
Rohm and DeBob Jacob. Suzanne spent time living and painting
with other artists in the South of France, and traveled in a number
of European countries with instructors Dick Turner and Dr. Pablo
Bobbio. She studied and painted with the Alla Prima
International painters at La Romita School of Art in Terni, Italy,
and continues to study in classes and workshops with noted artists
who are able to challenge her.
Suzanne holds memberships in a number of art organizations.
She is a member of Alla Prima International, The National Federation
of American Pen Women, a charter member of "The Fort Worth Fifteen,"
and is active in the prestigious Woman's Club of Forth Worth Art
Department.
Suzanne has won numerous ribbons and awards, including "Best of
Show." As a member of Alla Prima International, her work is
featured in the organization's shows held at noted galleries
throughout the United States. She exhibits regularly in
galleries and shows with a group of professional artists known as
"The Fort Worth Fifteen," as well as with the "American Pen Women"
and the "Woman's Club of Fort Worth." She has also had a
number of one- and two-woman shows in the Fort Worth, Dallas, and
Houston areas. She is represented by Monticello Gallery in
Dallas. Examples of her work can be seen on the Alla Prima
