Mary K. Forshagen is a signature member of the Oil Painters of America and a member of Alla Prima International. She grew up in Texas and attended Texas A & M University.
A major turning point in her career came in 1993 at a plein air painting workshop in Taos, New Mexico. "I had always painted primarily from life - now I paint primarily in plein air. I am stimulated by the challenges of outdoor painting - a quickly changing light source, the scent of wildflowers in the air and even those pesky little bugs that inevitably fly into my wet painting. All of these factors contribute to the emotional feel in a painting. There is a unique relationship between the artist and nature that I love."
Southwest Art Magazine selected her as an "Artist to Watch" in 1999 and the International Artist Magazine included Mary K. in their "Showcase of U.S. Painters" in 2000. Her work has been exhibited in many Oil Painters of America National Exhibitions and was selected for the National Arts for the Parts Exhibition. North Light Books chose her paintings to include in the books "Painting More Creatively" and "The Best of Flowers Painting: Two". She participates in numerous shows throughout the year.
Mary K. enjoys painting landscapes, still lifes and figures. She travels extensively in search of new ideas and inspirations. When at home in Houston, where she lives with her husband, Doug, and two cats, she can often be found painting under the oak tree in her front yard. "I hope to share my unique view of the world and its beauty with all who see my work."
